24 hours in Kansas City for my sister’s birthday

My sister lives on the Kansas-side of Missouri so for her birthday, I planned a fun 24 hours in Kansas City!
Read below for our full literary with reviews on a brand new hotel and a delicious gluten free breakfast.

First stop of the day: Super Kawaii Spa for a Japanese head treatment

This location was at the mall in Independence, Mo. We were so excited after seeing these head spa experiences on Instagram. It was nice, but unfortunately I experienced a few hiccups. First, my attendant forgot to wash the face mask off before we left and we had to go back to get it washed off. Then, we realized at lunch that she also left a bunch of hair oil in the nape of my neck. Again, nice experience but not what I had hoped for.

Next stop: lunch at Los Cabos (now closed so no review)

Checking in: AC Hotel Kansas City Downtown

I booked this hotel on points and we were so excited because it had only opened 3 weeks prior.
It was actually pretty empty during our stay. Beautifully decorated.

Since my sister’s birthday fell on Halloween weekend, I brought a murder mystery game that I had picked up at Wal-mart on the way. (You can also purchase it on Amazon using the link here) We played at the empty hotel bar with the bartender and had a great time!

On the topic of the bar – wine options were nice enough. Ordered food and it was horrible! So bad that we asked to have it taken off our bill since we didn’t eat it.
The “cheese plate” was $18 and literally had toast and a few pieces of cheese (see picture). So just do yourself a favor and don’t eat here.

For Breakfast: Homegrown Kitchen at Power & Light District

The next morning, we checked out and got breakfast before we hit the road.
First of all, this restaurant is so cute and really busy – a good sign!
I really enjoyed my gluten free pancakes and my sister liked her eggs Benedict.
Highly recommend that you check this place out if you’re in KC.
