One of the benefits we see of an all-inclusive is that with the exception of bringing tip money, you get to vacation with out having to bring a card with you, sign receipts, or worry about going over budget — because you pay for everything up front.
BUT when I saw the La Cava: Wine Cellar Restaurant experience listed on the website, I knew we had to do it.
And – SPOILER – we loved it!
How much did it cost?
$100 USD per person. Make your reservation with resort staff at the front desk or any of our restaurants, and inquire about our Private Experiences (additional cost).
When can you go?
Wine Pairing Dinner: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
What are they serving?

What’s the experience like?
When you first enter, you’re seated at a large table with other guests who also signed up for the experience. At first, the room was pretty quiet because we all didn’t know each other, but after the first few sips we all started chatting and had a great time!
The chef came out and explained the courses and the sommolier explained their choices of wines.

I’m picky – will I like the food?
The food was actually really good! My husband is not a particularly adventurous eater and he liked most of it.
From an allergy standpoint, I didn’t ask for gluten free accomodations for this meal, so I’m not sure what the options will be. The guy sitting across from us had a shellfish allergy and they modified all of the dishes and he seemed pretty happy with those as well.
Everything was beautifully plated.
The most memorable part was the tomato-filled pasta that came in a dish that immediately reminded me of the monkey brains scene in Indiana Jones. It was a great conversation piece!
I didn’t get a picture of every course, but I remember being super happy with everything served.

How much wine am I getting for $100 a person?!
First, I will say that we drink wine often and have strong opinions and felt the wine was very good.
While they served 5 wines, we were able to ask the somm for another taste of our favorite at the end of the meal and felt that we’d gotten our money’s worth.
Final Thoughts
It was a really great experience and I highly recommend it if you’re visiting Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres.
Don’t forget to bring cash to tip the waitstaff. You’re going to have an amazing meal!
